Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are the calorie estimates?

Accuracy varies based on how clearly the food is visible or described. For common whole foods photographed in good lighting, estimates are typically within 10–20% of actual calories. For processed or packaged foods, describing the brand name in voice mode can improve accuracy. Always treat CalorieAI's numbers as helpful estimates, not clinical measurements.

Is my food diary backed up?

Your diary is stored only on your iPhone. To back it up or transfer it to a new device, make sure iPhone's iCloud Backup is enabled: go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup. Enabling iCloud Backup will include your CalorieAI data automatically.

Does the app work offline?

Yes — nutrition lookup and all diary features work fully offline. The bundled USDA database is stored on your device. AI meal analysis (photo and voice) requires an internet connection since the photo or audio is sent to AWS for processing.

Why is the app asking for camera permission?

Camera access is used only to take meal photos for AI analysis. Photos are sent to AWS for processing and deleted within 60 seconds. CalorieAI never accesses your Camera Roll and never stores photos persistently.

How do I cancel my Premium subscription?

Go to iOS Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → CalorieAI Premium → Cancel Subscription. Your premium benefits continue until the end of the current billing period. Alternatively, use the "Manage Subscription" button inside the app's Profile & Settings screen.

The AI identified my food incorrectly. Can I fix it?

Yes. On the Ingredients Confirmation screen (shown after analysis), long-press any ingredient to edit its name, quantity, or unit. You can also swipe left to delete an ingredient, or tap "Add Ingredient" to add something the AI missed. After logging a meal, tap it in the Meal Log to edit the nutrition numbers directly.

What happens to the photos I submit?

Your photos are uploaded to a temporary AWS S3 storage bucket, processed by AI (typically under 10 seconds), then automatically deleted. S3 has a lifecycle rule that deletes all media objects within 2 hours regardless — photos are never stored persistently and are never reviewed by humans.

How do I delete all my data?

Deleting the CalorieAI app from your iPhone removes all locally stored data immediately — your diary, goals, settings, and profile. There is nothing stored on our servers to delete.
